Thanks so much for the review!
Just to clarify, the lack of resolution occurs because this is an ongoing series. This second issue actually ties into the first and will continue for several more issues.

Same, before I started putting stuff out into the public I had a bunch of notebooks filled up with scribble about like, "what really set Krigstein apart from the rest of the EC artist was similar to what set Steranko apart from the rest of the Marvel artists". Writing criticism also really helps with actually drawing comics in that it's endeavoring to understand what the stuff is doing and how it's being done, and understand it so well that you can verbalize it. It seems to me that the average critic understands more about comics than the average artist. And the more you understand, the greater the compulsion to explain gets... yep, critics gotta crit.

Yup. I read comics, I think about them, and I have to write that stuff down just to get it out of my brain.

I'm surprised to hear that those names aren't widely recognized here. Shueisha's easy, they're the Jump guys, Shogakukan I'm pretty sure is the company behind Shonen Sunday (either that or Shonen Magazine), Pierrot...well, I guess most can't be expected to know about the first magical girl wave, but surely people have seen their name in the Naruto credits. Madhouse...hoo boy, their output is INSANELY diverse. Besides Death Note, there's CLAMP, Satoshi Kon, Trigun, Nana, the upcoming Iron Man and Supernatural anime, Dennou Coil, Chi's Sweet Home, and so, so much else.

Production IG...okay, I know they're the same tier as Madhouse, but I can only think of Eden of the East offhand. All right, I'll check Wikipedia...hmm, hard to sort out which series they helmed and which they just assisted with, but Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor, Moribito, IGPX, The Prince of Tennis, and Kimi ni Todoke stand out.

One company you didn't mention that I'm willing to bet IS well-known is Gainax. Even those who don't know Royal Space Force, Gunbuster, and Nadia surely know Evangelion, FLCL, and Gurren Lagann.

(What about Sunrise? Even if they're only known as "the Gundam studio" and not everyone realizes they did Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, Mai-*, and Escaflowne too.)

Quibble: Captain Underpants, except for a deliberately amateurish chapter or two per book, is illustrated prose.

Well, I say deliberately amateurish. Maybe there's something aside from silliness George and Harold actually do remarkably well, you'd know better than I would.
