A couple years ago, I felt like mainstream comics and art comics were going to get separated once and for all - like these lists from The A.V. Club for Best of 2011. They did the same thing other years also.

This is all so subjective. Maybe it's not worth the ink and inevitable comment section correction. However, to me, it feels like the lists I've seen so far this year are all combined - the big tent approach. I'm sure that I'm generalizing but it seems like the lists make an effort to cover all the bases. The lists I have seen seem to have a few mainstream comics, a few literary comics, a couple reprints, one or two art comics, one or two webcomics. All neat and tidy. It feels like looking at a Bennetton ad or something. Too forced to feel like it's not forced, y'know?
Maybe that's how it always was and I'm remembering my own tunnel vision? Hmmm.
