I'm sure that most people, especially those in New York itself, have better shit to do than check message boards right about now, but still- Let us know you're alive & all that. Eli? Dean? Hellman? Anyone? Let us know you're alive, please. I was so looking forward to seeing all of you internet fucks this weekend, but I can barely imagine that I'll be on a plane to DC in two days. I can't wait to see them try & draft all of us pasty comix losers to go fight some terrorists overseas. IP: Logged |

I'm OK. My apartment is right across the East River from the southern tip of Manhattan. Woke up by people yelling, went out on the balcony as the first tower started collapsing. Holy God. IP: Logged |

I'm OK. My phone went out this AM so I came to work to call my parents. On my way I could see the towers, in flames. The next time I had a clear view, they were gone. Jesus. I'm going to give blood in a little while, and I urge all other NY'ers reading this to do the same. [This message has been edited by Dave McK (edited September 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

I don't think too many cartoonists were in the towers this morning....just tens of thousands of office workers who didn't know what hit them, and certainly didn't deserve to die horribly. [This message has been edited by Tim Frell (edited September 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

I talked with Dean Haspiel, Nick Bertozzi, and Josh Neufeld around 10am this morning, and they are ok if not freaked out. I've talked with a bunch of my friends in Manhattan and they are all ok. No word from anyone I know working at the World Trade Center towers. Jeff Mason IP: Logged |

Yeah, we're pulling for all you people. I hope everyone is okay. Such a horrific tragedy. Were there magazine offices in the Trade Center buildings? [This message has been edited by this is bak (edited September 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

(edited 'cause I missed Steve's post) My father-in-law was going to fly down there in less than a week. Holy Mother of God... [This message has been edited by Pete MacDonald (edited September 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

I was only a few blocks away when the '93 bomb went off. My wife got a job in the World trade Center as a result of openings caused by people afraid to go back to work. She always figured she was safe because lightning wouldn't strike twice. Luckily we moved to Vermont. This morning, thousands of people dragged themselves out of bed and made the kind of weary commute we used to make every day just to die a horrible death. Fucking tragic. IP: Logged |

Has anyone been in contact with Tom Hart, Leela Corman, Matt Madden, Jessica Abel or Jason Little? IP: Logged |

Oh My God, World War 3 here we come. We are stunned over here. Britain is on alert now too. The Prime Minister made a statement from here in Brighton. I'm hoping they don't decided to bomb here next. I'm glad I'm a stay at home type comic artist. Such an awful tragedy. Please God no more suffering. IP: Logged |

Tom, Jason, etc. all live pretty far out in Brooklyn...I'm on the Upper West Side near Columbia, and things look suprisingly normal here...David Boring probably wouldn't know a thing was amiss, if you get my meaning. Given that I'm pretty sure they all work at home, they are all hopefully fine. IP: Logged |

Evan Forsch works in the WTC. I hope he's ok. IP: Logged |

quote: WTC didn't have a lot of publishing in it; mostly brokerage houses, government offices, law firms, that sort of thing. The Commodoties Exchange was there, if I'm not mistaken. The death toll will surely make Oklahoma City look small by comparison; I've heard that on the average, 50,000 people worked in WTC every day. IP: Logged |

please, if you know anything about Matt Madden, Jessica Abel and Dean Haspiel let us know... it's really lamentable what has happened. words are not enough to express the sorrow and weariness this causes IP: Logged |

Matt & Jessica live in Brooklyn, so they should be fine, although phone/internet connections are likely fucked. I tried to donate blood at St. Vincent's, but they were already overwhelmed with donors, so a waiting list was passed around. Nice to know that so many people are willing to do what they can. God almighty. Word spread quick around my office about all this, and we all ran up to the conference room and watched it all happen live. Luckily, I live in Maine and we were watching this on TV. I can't imagine the pure horror those people went through, especially for those who chose to jump. God save us all. This is absolutely horrible. My gut is twisting. Keep the news coming in--a lot of cartoonists live down there, so everybody grab a buddy and check in with your teacher... IP: Logged |

Also living in lower Manhattan are Art, Francois and family as well as Heidi MacDonald. They're some distance from the Towers but confirmation would be appreciated. Basically, if you've talked to any NYC people we might know, please check in. Thanks. IP: Logged |

I haven't spoken directly to Heidi but i did see her on my buddy list and some email from her so I'm guessing she's ok. God, I came home from the psych ward last night, I wanted this to be another delusion i really did people i care about are still in the city and they won't lety me over the bridge to get to them i could all i can do is vent on here and hope they don't attack anything else I'm stuck out here. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry IP: Logged |

Tom Hart and I are fine. We saw the first tower from Brooklyn, on our way to the subway. It looked like a bite had been taken out of it. We had no idea; we thought it was an accident. I didn't find out about the terrorism until I got to 34th street. My office was shut down. I managed to get across 34th - took about an hour - and Tom and I hooked up and walked uptown, crossed the 59th street bridge on foot, and walked into Brooklyn from Queens. It took about 3 hours. I am exhausted and very sad. This is not the world we want to live in. Also, Alban Rautenstrauch, the publisher of the French anthology STEREOSCOMIC, just arrived last night, and is now trying to get back out to Brooklyn and our house. Tom said he heard a guy on Bedford Avenue say that he'd been flying into LaGuardia and saw the thing happen. IP: Logged |

I was supposed to be down there today. I had an interview down in lower Manhattan, and was all set to go this morning. I was on my way when I recieved a call on my cel telling me to go back. My mom called to make sure i was fine, and then my dad. I walked back from Midtown since I did not trust the subways. When I got back I went with friends to get cash out of the ATM and buy food - the supermarkets are packed with people, and the cash machines are running out of money. I have six friends who are daytraders in the area trapped in their building - they're fine, but very hungry. They arent allowed to leave, since the smoke is so thick. I also have two friends who have yet to check in, and one of them has a fiance who is very worried. Another friend's dad works next to the Pentagon. We're looking to set up a blood drive uptown, but it's impossible to get through to the Red Cross - if anyone in NYC wants, there is a drive at 66th and Amsterdam. All in all, I am on pins and needles - my prayers go to the victims, their families, and all my friends still down there... I feel like I'm living in a bad movie... this is not simply a random act of terrorism - it's a calculated plan straight out of a comic book. Thanks, Jeff, for letting me know about Dean - i was about to email him. I was figuring all the Brooklynites were fine. neil kleid IP: Logged |

I'm sorry, this is not about me. This is a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to the lives of those affected or destroyed, but I'm more upset with the government than anything else. I hope everyone is okay. [This message has been edited by this is bak (edited September 11, 2001).] IP: Logged |

So I was thankfully late for work today, if on time i would've been in the trade center at 8:45 this morning. I have seen things from my Jersey vantage point that no man should see. IP: Logged |

Good to hear so many people reported safe. Does anyone know about Megan Kelso and Mike Buckley? They live in Brooklyn, but I'm not sure where Mike works... Also, Roger Langridge, who was en route to SPX? Hell - I'm gonna spend all day thinking of people to worry about! Jesus - this is so fucking awful. We just woke up to the news down here in New Zealand and are reeling. All my love to you and yours - I hope you can find some peace and sanity amid the chaos. Love Dylan Horrocks IP: Logged |

Evan and I got out of the subway at Times Square this morning just after the second plane hit. It's like some horrible movie--seeing thousands of people staring up at the screen watching the plane. We also saw tens of thousands of people walking over the 57th St Bridge, the only way to get out. Whomever or whatever you pray to, say a prayer. And please donate blood, if you can. IP: Logged |
