The Journal is a cheap buy for advertising, and reaches a hardcore readership of knowledgeable comics patrons, store owners, art enthusiasts, and industry mavens. Journal readers are educated adults who spend a great deal of their disposable income on entertainment media. Our advertising contact person is Matt Silvie, who may be reached between 9-5 PM, pacific coast time, Monday-Friday.
Matt Silvie Advertising space is usually finalized four to six weeks before publication, and ads are usually due three to four weeks before they appear on the stands. However, there are a thousand reasons why that could change, and official deadlines are set by the Journal's advertising representative. Information from our official advertising packet follows:
*(.25" bleed all around)
All advertisements are subject to approval by The Comics Journal staff and should be professional and clean in appearance. All print ads should be sent digitally or camera-ready. Please email print ads directly to Matt Silvie: silvie@fantagraphics.com. Ad art must be submitted in Mac friendly files of the JPEG, TIFF or PDF format with a resolution of no less than 350 DPI. Color ad files should be CMYK.
Advertising space is available on The Comics Journal's Internet supplement, TCJ Online For design reasons, a limited number of horizontal banner ads only will be accepted. Banners should measure no more than 335 x 45 pixels, and should take up no more than 35 kilobytes of server space. Images should be submitted in gif or jpeg format, with animated gifs accepted. Banner ads are not placed on a rotation cycle, as is typical of many web sites. Instead, your ad would be placed on TCJ Online (on the homepage and the message boards) on the first day of the month, and removed on the last day of the month, assuring constant viewing by some of TCJ Online's growing traffic (over 155,000 visits per month in March 2005, up from just over 130,000 visits per month in March 2004). Advertisements are subject to approval by the Comics Journal staff, and should be kept to a minimum of gaudiness. TCJ requires ads to be submitted no less than 2 weeks prior to the first day of the month in which they are going to run. Contact Matt Silvie at (206)524-1967 or silvie@fantagraphics.com for any further information.
